Abraham was a POS, polygamist, outright liar, why did god bless him as the patriarch of his nation/religion?
If you can answer that please do.
I'd bet that if a modern christian heard the facts about Abrahams life but on someone like Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, they would criticize every part of the story.
They ignore his wrongs for, at least two reasons:
1 they don't read the "old" testament or take it as more than a story to forget because Jesus, despite him saying that not a scratch of the law is done away with even due to his sacrifice, died for their sins which they interpret to mean freedom to sin instead of a reason not to sin and also Paul gave them an excuse by disagreeing with Jesus' words.
2 they accept the Divine Command Theory so, Abraham is good because God says he's good and not because of what Abraham did or said.
It seems that it would have been much better for God to have chosen Job since he was good enough to wager against Satan...As good as he was he gets screwed due to a holy wager. But Abraham who lies about his wife twice and doubts God is granted an entire blessed lineage? Why is Yahweh blessing assholes instead of those who love him?
